Guatemala and UK to Discuss Free Trade Agreement

UK’s Minister of State of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who is from the British Conservative Party was recently on a working visit to Guatemala where she met with the republic’s Foreign Minister, Carlos Raul Morales.  Baroness Joyce Anelay was part of a joint press conference on Monday, December 14, where she spoke of the ongoing differendum between Belize and Guatemala.  According to an online publication the Baroness was noted as saying that the best route for eligible countries in dispute is to take the case to the International Court of Justice.  She reportedly added, quote, “We want both countries to move in a democratic manner on the issue of the territorial dispute”.  End of quote.  Baroness Anelay was noted as applauding the democratic steps taken to take forward the issue of the referendum.  On another note, the British politician spoke of exploring the possibility of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with Guatemala.
