North side police and officers of the Gang Suppression Unit prevented what they believe would have been an armed robbery. Authorities intercepted a taxi van on North Front Street in Belize City after two o’clock this afternoon. Five men were inside the taxi van and police found a loaded nine millimeter pistol. The five men and the taxi driver were taken to the Queen Street Police station for questioning. At news time, they have not been charged but charges are expected to be laid soon. Authorities believe that the five men had planned to rob Northern Fishermen Cooperative.
