Education Ministry Lobbies for Standardized Secondary Curriculum

Updated: March 14, 2017

A few years ago, the Ministry of Education decided to implement the Belize Education Sector Reform Project. One of the key components under that project is the Rationalization and Diversification of the Secondary School Curriculum in Belize.  Basically, the Ministry is proposing to have all secondary schools implement a standardized curriculum. A workshop was held today in Belize City where the district education officers and other stakeholders met. According to the ministry’s Chief Executive Officer, Deborah Domingo, this is only a proposed change, as any school can decide not to participate.

CXC Registrar, Glenroy Cumberbatch, has been brought in as a consultant and according to Cumberbatch, one of the challenges that some schools might face is financing.

The workshop continues tomorrow.
