Guatemalan Ambassador Remains a No-Show

On March 2, we called the Guatemalan Embassy in Belize to confirm that Ambassador Manuel Estuardo Roldan Barillas was back in the country and had officially resumed his duties as Guatemala’s Ambassador to Belize. An official from the embassy’s PR department told Love News that Ambassador had resumed his duties on March 1. However, Belize’s Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington, confirmed to the media today that Ambassador Barillas is in Guatemala, not in Belize.

Love News understands that plans that been set for Ambassador Barillas resume his duties but an “issue” in Guatemala has prevented that.  Ambassador Barillas had been recalled by Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales in April 2016 for ‘consultation’. This was at a time when a Belize Defence Force soldier shot and killed 13 year old Julio Alvarado sparking tension along the Belize/Guatemala border.
