News coming out of Guyana is that Belizean born twenty three year old Francisco Choc topped the Guyana Defense Force (GDF)’s Standard Officers Course Number 49. Choc is one of two Belizeans who graduated from the course yesterday. He received the awards for Best Student, Military Knowledge and Best Fitness. Earlier in the month the new officers were promoted to Ensigns and it was only yesterday that they were promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant at a ceremony held at State House where President David Granger presented the graduates with their instruments. On his Facebook Choc said quote, “The happiest day of my life!!! Getting the Sword of Honor from the President of Guyana for being the best graduating student….” End of quote. The cadets were trained in skill at arms, drill and tactics. They were also taught the techniques of management, leadership and the technologies of modern equipment. The second Belizean to graduate to Second Lieutenant was Caleb Rodriguez, a native from Hopkins.
