Protestors Want Espat and Requena to Account for Monies

Updated: March 23, 2017

A small group of protestors gathered at the foot of the National Assembly in Belmopan, Cayo District to express their discontent with the reported absence of their Area Representatives for Toledo West and Toledo East, Oscar Requena and Mike Espat, respectively.  Senator Macario Coy was among the protestors who told Love News that the two parliamentarians do not even have a constituency office in their division.

Love News spoke to former Area Representative, Peter Eden Martinez, who noted that of the six thousand two hundred dollars that the representatives collect, much work can be done.

Martinez says that they found today timely for their protest as it is a time when the country’s finances are being discussed and both Requena and Espat need to be held accountable for the monies they receive for their constituencies.

Espat has served several terms in the House of Representatives as far back as 1989 while Requena is into his third consecutive term.
