Negotiations are still ongoing between the Belize Emergency Response Team, BERT and the government for the continuation of emergency services by BERT. The relationship between both agencies fell through over the financial sustainability of BERT’s land ambulance services and after medical technicians at BERT left the organization to join the government payroll. BERT requested GOB provide additional funding for salaries and services of those who remained with BERT. In September a temporary solution was reached when GOB agreed to provide BERT with a monthly funding of forty-five thousand dollars for six months while both continued to negotiate a resolution. The newly appointed Manager and National Coordinator at BERT Andre Carrillo gave the media an update on those negotiations.
