Belize and Other SICA Nations Bound for Istanbul, Turkey

Foreign ministers of the Central America Integration System (SICA) will be in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 20 for the second Foreign Ministers Forum. Foreign ministers of the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica will attend the meeting, in addition to Nicaragua’s minister of state and Panama’s deputy minister. During the forum, Guatemala Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales and Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas will also hold bilateral meetings in Ankara on April 19. The Dominican Republic is expected to open an embassy in Ankara this year. This increases the number of Latin American embassies to 13 and the Dominican Republic becomes the fourth SICA members to have an embassy in Ankara. The SICA membership includes Belize, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. Its ten extra-regional observes include Italy, Spain, Mexico, Japan and Germany. The Central America Integration System was founded in 1991 to increase cooperation for regional peace, political freedom, democracy and economic development among member states.
