Updated: May 15, 2017

In recent months there have been some internal issues at the Corozal Free Zone with the most recent incident being the suspension of the CEO, Valentino Blanco on May 2, 2017.  It is a suspension that Blanco’s attorney noted is unlawful.  Most of the investors in the zone have supported the move as they are speaking of political interference which the Prime Minister denies.

Blanco was named the new CEO for the Free Zone with effect from March 1, 2017 and with a duration of twelve months.  According to the Chairman of the Board for the Free Zone, Gregory Gibson, they received about six applications for the position and had subsequently conducted interviews.  Blanco was a part of the public service where he served as a National Ozone Officer in the Department of the Environment.
