Last week Thursday the Public Accounts Committee, PAC, met after failing to do so on two prior occasions. Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber described the meeting as fruitful but the People’s United Party still has a problem with how the PAC is meeting. The meetings are held in Belmopan and in private. Today Leader of the Opposition John Briceno says that for the next meeting, he will make sure he attends.

“I just can’t understand what it is it that they are afraid of. As we always say that light is the best disinfectant against corruption, bring it out to light. It is important for the PAC meetings to be made public so that you can go in and listen. It is our business that they are discussing, it is not their business, it is our business and we have every right as a citizen and myself as a member of the National Assembly to go and attend those meetings and I need to check with the chairman of the committee that when they have the next PAC meeting I am going to go and I am going to do everything possible to get into that room and let the police take me out.”

A date for the next meeting has not been set. The PAC will review the Auditor General’s reports on several government ministries between the years 2012 and 2013.
