82-year-old knocked down and killed in Stann Creek

A traffic incident has claimed the life of an elderly man in the Stann Creek District on Thursday afternoon. According to police, shortly before two o’clock 24-year-old Shamir Leslie of Placencia Village was traveling from Belmopan to Placencia, along with two other persons in a grey Mitsubishi Outlander. Upon reaching an area between miles six and seven on the Stann Creek Valley Road, in front of Xaibel Gas Station, Leslie hit 82 year old Pedro Cucul. Reports indicate that Cucul was walking across the road to get on a bus that was heading to Belmopan when he was knocked down. Cucul sustained serious head injuries, abrasions to the chest and left foot and was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he later died. Cucul was a farmer and resident of Big Falls Village in the Toledo District.
