Police have gotten word of an apparent kidnapping that occurred last night in Gales Point Manatee in the Belize District. According to police, a foreign couple escaped unhurt from kidnappers sometime last night. A complaint was made early this morning to Hattieville Police and investigator, Corporal Ian Geban shared with the media some preliminary information.
“Early this morning we received information of an abandoned vehicle in the Burrell Boom road area. The area was visited and the vehicle was observed to be abandoned. We were waiting for the vehicle to be transported and processed at the Hattieville Police station and information was relayed via the police communication network and shortly afterwards the owner of the vehicle visited the station after he was informed that his vehicle was located. He made a verbal report to the station that he was kidnapped. Information is sketchy at this time and we are in the process of transporting the vehicle to be processed and we’re working on the investigation at this time. There is not a lot of information in relation to this report.”
“Sir are you all hopeful that you will be able to lift some fingerprints from the vehicle?”
“Definitely the vehicle was treated as a crime scene from the time we received the information so it is under a controlled environment where it will be transported and will be processed fully by the scenes of crime technicians. As far as I can go these are individuals not from Belize, we’re not sure of the nationality but they are not from Belize. They live in Belize.”
“Did you have any personal encounter with the person? Was the person shaken up that sort of thing, traumatized?”
“Yes. Well from the time the person came to make the report I observed that he appeared to be traumatized so I believe the report to be genuine.”
When we checked with the Commander of Eastern Division Rural just after four o’clock this evening, we were told that the couple did not return to make an official police report. We then checked with the Commanding Officer of Dangriga, we were told that no report has been made as yet.
