Accident in Northern Belize Ends Fatal

It was just before nine o’clock last night when Orange Walk police were summoned to an area on the San Felipe/August Pine Ridge Road where they came across a black Toyota Hilux truck in the middle of the road, bearing extensive damages.  In addition, investigators found 39-year-old, Johan Knelsen, a Mennonite of Camp 13 at the Shipyard Community, lying on the side of the road.  Preliminary investigations have revealed that 38-year-old, David Blatz of an Orange Walk Town address was driving the Hilux towards August Pine Ridge Village when he collided into the back of a horse and cart buggy, driven by Knelsen.  Accompanying Knelsen was his wife, 37-year-old, Elizabeth Knelsen and their two children, his two year old daughter and 7-week old son.  As a result, the buggy was totaled while the wife was injured to the left side of her face, her foot and left knee.  The 2-year-old girl received scrapes and cuts to her face, forehead and both feet while the 7-week old baby was injured to the back of the head.  The father, Johan Knelsen, did not survive the incident and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Northern Regional Hospital just before eleven o’clock last night.
