April saw a decrease in consumer prices, for the most part

Consumer prices are down according to the Statistical Institute of Belize. Well, that was what the numbers showed for the month of April. The decrease is recorded at five percent on average compared to the same month last year. That is for the cost of regularly purchased good. For the first four months of the year 2018, the country saw a slight decline in consumer prices compared to the same period in 2017, recording a year to date inflation rate of negative 0.2 percent.  Going into some detail, the statistical institute reports that despite fuel hikes, the transport category recorded an overall decrease of 4.8 percent for the month of April 2018. The category of ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ saw an overall decline of 0.2 percent. However, an increase of point seven percent was seen in the prices for goods and services within the ‘Housing Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ category for the same month.
