Police continue to seek two men for an armed robbery that resulted in one man being shot in the head at Wayo’s Bar in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The incident happened on Friday. ASP Alejandro Cowo told the media more about the incident.

ASP Alejandro Cowo: “Friday night just after 11, police were called to the San Pedro Polyclinic where they observed Mr. Osner Campos with a gunshot to the back of his head. What police gathered so far, Mr. Campos was working at Wayo’s Bar in the Boca Del Rio Area when two persons entered the establishment and held up the owner of the business place and some patrons that were inside. As a result, one of the persons fired a shot that hit the wall. That ricocheted and hit Mr. Campos injuring him to the back of the head. He was brought to Belize City and on the following day he was discharged because his injury was not life threatening.”

Police say they are yet to establish the identity of the two robbers. ASP Cowo adds that some money was also stolen from patrons in the Bar at the time of the incident. When asked, Cowo said that police do not believe that businesses that are frequented by tourists are being particularly targeted by robbers.

ASP Alejandro Cowo: “It’s not that they are being targeted, it is they are vulnerable. You know that Boca Del Rio is an area that is far from the main center or of the town, just like the robbery of the gas station, the last one Caribena. It was a distance from the station or main town so that is the opportunity that those guys really take advantage because Police presence is not there as it is not as concentrated as in the towns.”
