Guatemalans incursions continue to occur, especially in villages along the border such as Otoxha and Dolores. In an effort to reduce the number of incidents, the residents of these villages have requested the BDF’s assistance in patrolling the border between Belize and Guatemala. Prime Minister Dean Barrow spoke to the media about the matter.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow: The BDF has been out there and in fact more regular patrols in those areas were discussed at the National Security Council level and agreed on and I think in terms of structures that are already in the area that need to be dismantled, it’s just a matter of getting the OAS to complete the verification process and that will be done.

Villagers should feel secure with the increased BDF patrols.
