A cultural event aimed at promoting dialogue and peace took place in Guatemala City. The two-day event was held by Belize and Guatemala and it was entitled “The Belizean and Guatemalan Garifuna Culture as an Expression of Social Cohesion, Intercultural Dialogue and Promotion of Peace.” Presentations were done to exhibit the type of historical coexistence shared by communities living along the Belize Guatemala border in the south. At the event, Garifuna Groups Lirahunu Satuye of Dangriga Town and Luwaruguma Guifu of Livingston made presentations which encompassed the history of the Garinagu people, their culture, and traditions. Speaking of the event is Belize’s Ambassador to Guatemala, Alexis Rosado.
The event had the support of UNESCO, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation, the Garifuna Council of Belize and CODIRSA – the Presidential Commission Against Discrimination and Racism of Guatemala.
