Belize-Guatemala Joint Commission meets

Yesterday the Belize-Guatemala Joint Commission met in Teakettle Village, Cayo District. The meeting was held with support of the Organization of American States (OAS).  The meeting was led by Commissioners of both countries, Belize’s Ambassador to Guatemala Alexis Rosado and his counterpart, Georges de La Roche. Both parties reviewed the earlier progress regarding the bilateral agreements signed in 2014 and agreed that the internal coordination will be carried out with their respective authorities, in order to speed up the implementation of those agreements. The Commission also prioritized areas of common interest for mutual benefit and identified pending issues in the bilateral relationship. They further agreed to establish a roadmap for the Joint Commission for the current year including indicators to measure progress. The Joint Commission will meet again in April 2018.The OAS was represented by Katalina Montana who was acting on behalf of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the OAS for the Belize-Guatemala issues Manuel Washington Abdala.
