Belize’s Fire Chief, Ted Smith, is in the United States visiting Patrick Parks and Johnny Cardenas, two Belizeans fighters who are studying in Virginia. The duo is on a six-month training course at the Hanover Fire Academy. During his visit, Smith also met with the Chief of the Hanover County Fire Department, Jethro Piland. Smith also met with his colleagues, retired Fire Chief of Chesterfield County, Paul Mauger, and Belize-American who is President of the Virginia Emergency Service Assistance Program (VESAP) for Belize, Archibald McFarlane. Both men were essential in securing scholarships for Parks and Cardenas. Smith says he is trying to secure similar scholarships for two more Belizean firefighters to study at the Hanover Fire Academy.
