The Christmas season is upon us and the Belmopan City Council has begun its activities and celebrations. Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz has the story on a n upcoming weekend event.
In organizing the 15th annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony which is slated for Saturday December 7th is presently under way here in the nation’s capital city Belmopan. Mayor Khalid Belisle spoke to Love News about the excitement of bringing back the Christmas spirit to Belmopan.
Khalid Belisle, Mayor of Belmopan: “I just want to take the opportunity to invite all residents of Belmopan and the surrounding communities to come out to witness this year’s tree lighting. I know you mentioned that this is the 15th annual a tradition that we started many years ago and that remains unbroken. As one of the hallmark events on our Christmas calendar here in the City of Belmopan ensuring that we signal that our city once again welcomes that spirit of Christmas back into our midst, ensuring that we remember as they say the reason for the season toys and gifts and merriment are all nice but we just really want to make sure that we highlight the reason that we celebrate this time of year. We’re looking forward to seeing the crowd out there tomorrow night, it’s been getting bigger and bigger year after year. We have a lot of entertainment lined up for the residents that come out tomorrow, a lot of performances by various schools I believe the 501 Band will be performing, I think Mr.Richard Pitts will also be performing on his saxophone so definitely want to take the opportunity to invite everyone out and invite them to continue using the George Brown field area over these next two and a half weeks heading into Christmas for family events and the like. Once again just want to take the opportunity to wish everybody a happy holiday season in Belize.”
The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony begins at six thirty on Saturday evening at the Sir George Brown Field in Site 7.////]
