📣 Two More Cases of COVID-19 Confirmed.                      📣 PRESS RELEASE Belmopan. April 6, 2020. 10:30 a.m. – The Ministry of Health has continued to scale up testing for COVID-19 and a further 26 samples were tested on Sunday, April 5th. That scaled up testing has identified two further cases, both males residing in San Ignacio.                      📣 ***PATIENT 4 PASSES*** – Love News has confirmed with a family member that Patient 4 lost his fight against COVID-19. Reports indicate he passed away earlier today after underlying complications.                      📣 Belmopan. April 5, 2020. 8:15 a.m. – Ministry of Health confirms Fifth case of COVID-19 in Belize.                      📣 Today, April 5, 2020 at 03:19 a.m., the expanded testing protocol of the Ministry of Health identified a fifth case of COVID-19. The patient is a Belizean student who returned from Florida.                      📣 The patient arrived in Belize on Friday, April 3rd, and is in self-isolation at a quarantine facility. He is without symptoms and stable.                      📣 A total of 102 samples were processed on April 4th and into the early hours of today. The samples processed included close contacts from both Belize City and San Ignacio and that of health care workers in the Cayo District who had been in contact with patient #4.                      📣 The remaining 101 samples were all negative for COVID-19, and therefore, the Ministry is still unable to determine who the infected contact was for patient #4.

Benque Viejo Marching Band is the 2019 Bandfest Champs

Busloads of students, teachers, parents and spectators flocked to Orange Walk on Saturday for the annual Bandfest event.  Bandfest 2019 saw new choreographies, new skills and brand new winners. Here is a recap of what happened and a look at the new winners for this year’s event.

Dalila Ical: “The day started out with a parade by all participants leaving from the Orange Walk Central Park area, heading to the Orange Walk People’s Stadium. It was here that spectators and judges had their first look of all the bands in both the Drum Corps and Wind Instrument categories. In the afternoon session of the day’s event, the bands in both categories presented their routines to wow the crowd and the judges. Under the stinging glare of the sun, the groups gave it their best. As the day wound up, and all presentations were done, the People’s Stadium became stricken with anticipation. The winners were soon announced. In the Drum Corps category, Mahogany Heights Drum Corps took third place. In second is Sarteneja United and in the first place was….”

Armin Arana: “Ladies and gentlemen, the first place winner in the Drum Corps Competition for 2019 now, the Smart Southern Sounds Drum Corps. And . Congratulations Smart Southern Drum Core, it is a three peat for Dangriga. Congratulations Dangriga.”

Dalila Ical:“This is the third time that Southern Sounds Drum Corps takes the first prize. It had first done so in 2017, the very same year it was first established and took part in Bandfest. In the Wind Instrument category, there was much enthusiasm as this year saw the return of one of the more competitive groups, the Benque Viejo Marching Band. There was no doubt this band would bring a tough challenge for the defending champs, the Corozal Community College Marching Band, which also held that title consecutively for the past four years. In the end, the defending Champs fell back two spots into third place. In second place was Wesley College Marching Band and in first…”

Armin Arana: “Ladies and Gentlemen put your hands together for the new Champion in Bandfest 2019 please make some noise for Benque Viejo Marching Band.

Co-host: “They took a leave of absence for four years and they said they were coming back to take the Championship and that they have done. Benque Viejo Marching Band Fest Champions.

Dalila Ical: Benque Viejo Marching Band was established in 2011. The group won first place in 2014. It won second in 2013 and 2015, after which it stepped out of the competition for four years.”There were also prizes for four other categories. The Best Choreographed  Band is Benque Viejo Marching Band. The Most Improved Marching Band is Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico. The Most Popular Band which is selected via text voting, is Corozal Community College CCC,took the prize.”

This is the 14th year that Bandfest is being held.
