One of the main issues that the Belize Progressive Party would be tackling is crime. Leader of the BPP Patrick Rogers says that if they are elected they will address crime at the municipal level.
PATRICK ROGERS, LEADER, B.P.P
“We intend to address crime ourselves at the municipal level by looking at constables that report to the municipal leaders. So we have an example in the tourism police- so they set up their own special branch of police that tickle’s their fancy, tourism. Well, right now crime is the biggest problem we face in this city. It is affecting economic activity where businesses refuse to stay open until 9 pm- they are shuttering their shutters from 8 pm so that they don’t remain open until 9 pm. And so yes compassion and crime are two of the key things we’ve been addressing at the municipal level that we want to bring about. So we have our youths, we know them, we can set up our database and we know them as they are being born in our city and take custody of those kids. We intend to do that but we need to be elected to do that to show that it can be done.”
