The Belize Territorial Volunteers has responded to statements made by Prime Minister Dean Barrow on taking the Belize Guatemala Dispute to the International Court of Justice. The BTV has been one of the most vocal groups against taking the matter before the ICJ. In his statements, the Prime Minister said he was confident that Belize has a strong case and that he supports a “yes” vote. Belizeans, he added, should be encouraged to support the move and most of his area representatives have committed their support as well. BTV’s Wil Maheia rejected the statements.

Maheia also expressed his objections to Belize requesting assistance from Guatemala to stop incursions within the Chiquibul Reserve. He says Belize has the resources and expertise to do so on its own.
