Cabinet sets date for ICJ Referendum in Belize

The Government has set a date for Referendum on International Court of Justice. A release states that the date will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. For the referendum, eligible voters will decide whether or not to take the dispute to the ICJ. According to the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already commenced and will step up its public awareness campaign which is being launched under the theme “ICJ, Be Informed’. This campaign will include various approaches in an effort to reach citizens in all parts of Belize. On April 15 Guatemala successfully held its referendum in which 1.8 million people voted in favor of taking its claim to the ICJ.
