Can new Commissioner curb crime?

A solution for the crime situation in Belize is still no where in sight.  With the new Commisioner of Police recently sworn in there is hope especially since he has taken over at a very crucial time when crime is on the rise.  He has told the media that he will be approaching the issue via multiple avenues until there is a vast reduction in the murder rates.  Minister of National Security, John Saldivar says that it is not an overly ambitious goal that the Commissioner has set in place.

Honorable John Saldivar Minister of National Security: “You may recall I think in 2013 we were able to get the murder rate that you are referring to below 100. I took over as Minister last year in a very challenging time when we were almost 24 murders above the 2017 figure and if you know the figure ending for 2018 we are only 1 about the 2017 figure which means the trend has been downwards in terms murder and we hope to continue that trend in 2019 so I dont think it is over ambitious. I think it is achievable and I am sure that the new Commissioner is going to work hard to ensure that we achieve that.
