Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner handed over the key to the city to Hally Haynes. He is the President of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions of which Belize is a part of. The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions has over two point five million members with sixteen countries represented. Its assets total six point four billion dollars and this evening Mayor Wagner explained why is it important to host the Confederation.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Well you know the Credit Union movement has always been a big part of the whole Belizean experience. It has always been there to assist the common man and we felt as a council that campaigned on ensuring that we looked out for the business of the people; we felt that what better way to show that we are all about the people by hosting the President of the Confederation of the Credit Union’s here at City Hall. The Credit Union in itself has always been serving the Belizean people and we felt that given the key to the President of the Confederation of Credit Union’s was important. They play a substantial role in the everyday lives of the Belizean people.”
The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) was established on in 1972.
