Caribbean countries owe US $250 million dollars to UWI

At today’s Campus Council Meeting, Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, pointed out that two-hundred and fifty million US dollars is owed to the University of the West Indies by the Governments of the Caribbean.  Love News asked the Head of UWI Open Campus, Jane Bennett, whether Belize pays the university on time.

Jane Bennett –  the Head of the UWI Open Campus, Belize: Belize is one country that keeps its commitment to the University, we may be behind for a year max but Belize is one of the key contributors that has kept its commitment to this University and so to answer your question” yes but very minimal”. Belize is one of the country that as I said before we stay on board with our commitment to this Regional University.”

The University of the West Indies began in 1948 as a college with thirty-three students. Over the years, it has grown leaps and bounds to be a regional university with campuses in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the Open Campuses. It is the most established tertiary education institution in the Commonwealth Caribbean with over forty thousand students.
