Fifty-seven-year-old Bernadat Reyes, aka “Burns”, a plumber of a West Street address, was charged with sexual assault on a two-year-old baby girl when he appeared today before the Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser. Reyes pled not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the child is of a tender age; that the prosecution has a strong case; and that the defendant lives in close proximity to the child and if granted bail he might interfere with the child. Reyes had nothing to say in relation to the objection to bail and Chief Magistrate Fraser upheld the objection and remanded Reyes into custody until March 14. The incident occurred on January 2. The mother of the child reported to the police that she was upstairs of her house and when she looked down through her window she saw Reyes caressing the chest area of her daughter in a sexual manner.
