Church speaks out against crime

2 min read

Belize is positioned at third place on a list of countries with the highest murder rate in the world. In one weekend alone, there were five persons killed which prompted the government to take some actions to help alleviate the problem. One of the actions taken was to have the police and soldiers patrol our streets together; however, the crime continues. Reverend Canon Leroy Flower spoke about the violence and corruption that has been plaguing our land.

Reverend Canon Leroy Flower – Anglican Church

“Our love and our sympathy and our prayers to all those who are in this community in pain over violence, but also the abuses, the neglect, the deception and the corruption that have evaded our land and is slowly becoming the norm. Where even our religious and political leaders find it difficult to be civil to each other because of their differences. I think that is wrong. All of us must recognize that first of all as Christians, we have a responsibility and secondly, as citizens of this land, we have a responsibility to treat each other with the greatest love and respect.”

There was a total of one hundred and forty-two murders that occurred in Belize in 2017.
