Belize is a transit country for narco trafficking, money laundering, and human trafficking. Thirteen years ago, the Belize Coast Guard added its  strength to the security forces and since then, it has been patrolling the rivers and sea to help curb crime. Today, the Belize Coast Guard held its annual Christmas luncheon and the organization addressed its achievements throughout the year. Rear Admiral John Borland noted that this year was a productive year, despite, the challenges.

Johnelle Mckenzie: “ Belize is a transit country for narco trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking. 13 years ago the Belize Coast Guard added its strength to the Security Forces and since then it has been patrolling the rivers and seas to help curb crime. Today the Belize Coast Guard held its annual Christmas Luncheon and the organization addressed its achievements throughout the year. Rear Admiral John Borland noted that this year was a productive year despite the challenges.

Rear Admiral John Borland Commandant Belize Coast Guard: “ Once again we have come to the end of yet another testing but yet fruitful and productive year. A year filled with its ups and downs and its highs and lows but you the few, the proud, showed your resilience and grit and overcame every adversity. As the saying goes we are forged by adversity. The Coast Guard continues to the be the Apex institution that we created 13 years ago and despite the challenges we face we continue our upward mobility and take the place as one of the flagship institutions in providing the safety, security and the protection of this nation and its citizens. Now none of this would have been possible without you, the officers men and women who carry this institution on your shoulders, you who wear this uniform with pride and honor, you who sacrifice your own freedom and liberties to ensure that this nation sleeps safely at night, you who stand watch and patrol our seas ready to confront any enemy that threatens our nation’s freedom and safety.

Jonelle Mckenzie: “A few officers were awarded for their outstanding performances throughout the year, there was also an award in memory of Hermelinda Emanuel who was killed by her husband earlier this year. Captain Elton Bennett the Vice Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard said that it was a great loss for the Coast Guard.”

Captain Elton Bennett the Vice Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard:  “We decided to give an end of the year award in her memory that we refer to as the Ms. Hermelinda Emmanuel Award and it goes to a member of the Coast Guard who is a good team player and who understands administration and logistics and performs in similar ways as she did because what she did for this organization even though she was not a uniformed member she brought a high level of professionalism and so we looked amongst our staff to see if there is an individual that fits that similarity Ms. Emmanuel had in terms of her work ethics.

Johnelle Mckenzie: The other awards included Seaman Of The Year and Engineer Of the Year. This is Johnelle Mckenzie reporting for Love News.
