Commissioner of Police ‘shakes’ things up

2 min read

Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie is shaking things up in the Belize Police Department. Several senior police officers have been reassigned. Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal has been return to Special Branch in Belmopan. After a short and rough stint as the commander of Eastern Division South, Vidal is being replaced by Senior Superintendent of Police, Howell Gillett. Gillett has building a reputation as a Commander who has fostered and strengthened a positive relationship with the communities in Belmopan. He is known for his quick arrest in mayor crime incidents. Gillett says he takes up his new post with pride and honour. He hopes to win the fight against crime with the help of the Belize City communities and dedicated officers. Commander of Eastern Division will now be Assistant Commissioner of Police, Robert Mariano. Mariano’s old post will not be filled by ACP Dezerie Magdaleno. Magdaleno was the Central Regional Commander. She will now be in charge of the department’s Management services. ACP Edward Broaster who will serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police will be in charge of administration. As for ACP Chester Williams, he has also been elevated to Deputy Commissioner of Police status and will be responsible for operations. The changes, we are told, are to take effect immediately.
