44-year-old, Jordy Bainton was killed yesterday evening after he reportedly fell off his bicycle and was dragged a few feet by a Mack Truck at the corner of Chetumal Street and Philip Goldson Highway. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, briefed the media on how this accident occurred.
A.C.P. Joseph Myvett – Head N.C.I.B.: “Shortly after 5pm yesterday police were called to Chetumal Boulevard where they observed a blue Mack truck which was north bound on the Boulevard and just in front of the truck they observed the motionless body of a male person later identified as Jordy Bainton 44 years of a Belize City address. Nearby they found a black bicycle which was extensively damaged. What we were able to ascertain is that Mr. Bainton seemingly was riding on the left-hand side of the divider northbound and he attempted to cross the divider just about where the pedestrian ramp is and in doing so he was not seen by the driver who had recently stopped and had just taken off. The driver was taken into custody where samples were taken from him and he was served with a notice of intended prosecution and later released pending further investigation into this matter.”
