According to police, after 7:30 Home Ever Supermarket located in Ladyville Village, Belize District was the latest target. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, head of the Crimes Investigation Branch in the Belize District says the proprietor of the store was just opening when she was ambushed.
ASP Alejandro Cowo Head C.I.B.: “The proprietor was held at gunpoint by four male persons. Three of them wearing masks and one of them was bare-faced. During the robbery, a total of $2000 cash was stolen and two cell phones. Based on that Police conducted an investigation and at this moment two persons were detained and the suspected getaway vehicle is presently being sought by Police. Yes, indeed it is a concern that there is an increase of crimes being committed in that area however there is a heavy police presence in that area which led to the information being shared quickly which led to the detention of the two male persons this morning in Belize City.”
The proprietor was hit in the head and sustained a minor injury. Up until yesterday no official report has been filed at the police station.////////The other robbery occurred in the wee hours of yesterday morning by a group of four men. Police say it happened shortly before three o’clock this morning.
ASP Alejandro Cowo Head C.I.B.: “This morning at about 2:40 am police were called to the Uno Depot located at 4 ½ miles on the George Price Highway where they spoke to the security guard who reported that whilst he was inside of the booth he was held up at gunpoint by a male person of dark complexion. He was then taken to the back of the building where three other persons gained entry through the back of the fence and as a result, they ransacked the booth and stole his cellphone and $50 in cash. Fortunately, a truck was entering the compound to get refueled and that is when the security alerted the driver and the four persons ran away from the compound. He escaped unhurt and police are investigating the matter.”
No official report on the incident has been made. Meanwhile, out in the far west, in Benque Viejo del Carmen Town, Police have confiscated more weapons. The discovery was made by officers on patrol after they searched an empty lot near the river banks in that municipality. They found two weapons in a bag that had been tucked into two sacks.
ACP Joseph Myvett Head of NCIB: “One of those weapons is a 45 glock pistol containing twelve rounds of 45 ammunition and the second weapon is a 9mm pistol containing a total of thirteen rounds of ammunition. No one was found in the area so those weapons were processed, retrieved and deposited as found property at this point in time pending further investigation.”
Reporter: “Sir I think a week ago a grenade was also found on the river bank in Benque Viejo. Is it possible that these two things are linked? “
ACP Joseph Myvett: “At this point in time, we will not be able to say that because as you all know the river bank in Benque Viejo is a large enough area. If you would recall over the last two months there have been a number of weapon seizures and a few of those seizures were along the same riverside in empty lots.”
No arrests were made in this recent find.
