“Do you play your guitar, your harp, and your violins every day?”

Florencio Mes, 80 years old

“Not everyday but sometimes when I remember maybe Saturday or Sunday I play my small guitar but this guitar is for the harp it is not for any guitar. This is the harp guitar “

Hipolito Novelo, Love News Reporter

“Do you still go around the country playing music for your fans?”

Florencio Mes, 80 years old

“Well I say yes. I wish to move sometime soon I wish to go to three or four weeks to spend the day and I should be happier I think.”

We also spoke to Mes’s son, Hilario who told us that the Cultural King is doing well, health-wise.

“I am happy to be the son of what you call the cultural king of Belize. So what my father is asking NICH or whoever was in charge of culture can be able to maybe help him in such a way that he can benefit from his culture , things that he used to do and what he is still doing and he still wants to continue it. He is doing well because he is still living in his farm, I call it his farm because he lives with his corn that he plants around his house and his plant fruit trees and that he has at his house and that how he is surviving so far. I would like to see him getting help somewhere outside the hundred dollars that social security give him monthly. I am pleading or asking or I am begging somebody to listen to his cry. He’s been asking about this already. Now he is 80. Imagine somebody that is 80, I think he needs help now.”

Mes lives in San Pedro Colombia, Toledo.
