Cycling Federation tentatively sets date for elections

1 min read

The Cycling Federation of Belize has tentatively set April 28 as the date it will carry out elections for its executive.  The announcement was made by the Federation’s Vice President Orson Butler last week via the Federation’s Facebook Page. The announcement comes after some cyclists raise concerns over the management of the Federation and the sport. Two cyclists, namely Tarique Cano and Hao Cheng Lee criticized the Federation for not having elections in the past two years. According to Butler, the Federation’s constitution was amended and they were waiting for the Sports Council to recognize the amended constitution in order to carry out elections. Cano who had initially expressed interest in running for the post of President is now stepping aside to support Alexi Ordonez. In related news, the Federation has selected Giovanni Lovell, Oscar Quiros, and Edgar Nissan Arana to represent Belize at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. Robert Stewart and Joel Borland are the alternates.
