Dr Omar Figueroa first came into political office in in January 2015 when a bi-election occurred in the Cayo North constituency. Upon his election to office, Prime Minister Dean Barrow awarded him with the post of Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Environment and Sustainable Development. Minister Figueroa has not been seen in the media’s limelight in the last year but according to him, he has been productive both in his ministry and his division.

“There is a lot that we’ve done. Right now we are setting together a good management strategy for our sports sector of the Victor Galvez Stadium. We are working on the road all the way from San Ignacio to Bullet Tree. We are getting ready to upgrade the roads in El Pilar and some of the key roads in the village of Bullet Tree. It’s that time of the year when we start to begin to put our programs in place to help students with educational assistance and there is a lot that we are doing in Cayo North.”
Minister Figueroa’s election came as a result of the resignation of elected Area Representative, Joseph Mahmud and subsequently kept the seat in the November 2015 general elections.
