Dr. Alain Gonzalez fired from the KHMH

2 min read

Former Belize City Councilor, Dr. Alain Gonzalez is out of a job tonight. He was fired from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he worked for more than ten years. Love News has learned that the Human Resource Manager at the KHMH handed Dr. Gonzalez his walking papers this past Saturday. Dr. Gonzalez had reported to work on that day but instead of attending to patients, he was shown the door. Dr. Gonzalez has appealed his termination to the KHMH Board because, as we understand, no reason was given for his immediate dismissal. He is fighting his termination and when he went to the KHMH to hand in his appeal letter yesterday morning, he was confronted with security officers who had to escort him off the compound. Dr. Gonzalez has given the Board seven days to answer his appeal letter, and if he is not satisfied with the Board’s response the matter will proceed to the courts. Additional information emerging from the KHMH is that several staff members are not happy with how things are running at the national referral hospital. Today our newsroom received a letter purportedly written by the KHMHA Adhoc Committee which is demanding the immediate removal of Director of Human Resources Ixchell Murillo and Director of Medical Services Dr. Lisa Johnson. The Committee says that several KHMH staff members have been fired in contravention of the labor laws. According to the letter, the KHMH Adhoc Committee finds this distasteful and very troubling as members of the staff are worried about being unjustly fired.
