The International Monetary Fund concluded its latest report on Belize last week. According to the report, Belize is facing multiple economic challenges with the country’s fiscal position weakened and an increasing public debt. The report makes recommendation one of which is for the Government to raise taxes, particularly the General Sales Tax. Today we asked Dr. Carla Barnett for her expert opinion on the report. Dr. Barnett was Belize’s Financial Secretary.
Dr. Barnett says that one of the measures put in place to deal with the problem is to increase revenue collection efforts.
