American businessman Chad Eckert is being sued by his former employee, Gustavo Cardenas.  Eckert is the owner of Sea Island Cottons that operated in the Orange Walk District.  Cardenas is claiming that he was jilted by his former employer and today the case came up for trial before Justice Courtney Abel. Eckert appeared with his attorney, Darrell Bradley.

Darrell Bradley, Attorney: “There was an issue with a farm of which he is a director of the company that owns it. This was an issue that was occurring in Orange Walk, it’s a situation over a year period, there was a dispute between the person who was retained as being the manager and then the company itself of which Chad is a director and so the manager took him to court for the recovery of certain items including the seeds and that is before the supreme court right now. Mr.Cardinez who is the claimant in this matter took the company to court, we defended the claim, the matter is on going. Today we have the case together with submissions and the judge has indicated his desire to want to complete it as quickly as possible and there will be a resolution.”

Eckert is also one of the principals of Apex International, the company that manages the Civic Center.
