Twelve children ages ten to twelve years old, from all over the country are attending the first ever Junior Ranger Summer Camp at Las Cuevas Research Station in the Chiquibul Forest. (VO STARTS) The camp’s main purpose is to encourage the children towards discovering, learning and caring about nature as well as the ecological process, beauty and importance of the Chiquibul Forest, while also teaching them various skills. Friends for Conservation Development (FCD) plans to host the camp annually for young boys and girls. The camp was spearheaded by instructors of the FCD, such as the park manager, programs director, chief ranger, ranger medic and the environmental educator. It was made possible through the efforts of the British High Commission in Belmopan and the Belize Eco- Cultural Tours.
