Fishermen busted for gear, illegal product and Gillnet

Two fishermen have found themselves at the illegal end of their gear.  21-year-old Randy Franklin and 27-year-old Javier Castillo, were fined by Magistrate Khadeem Palmer after they pleaded guilty to fisheries offences. Franklin pleaded guilty to possession of 7 permit fish. He was fined $250 and he was given until February 20 to pay. If he defaults on payment he will serve 2 months. On November 23, 2018 at about 1:30 p.m. a Coastguard officer handed over 6 gill nets and the photo of an ice box containing 7 permit fish to a Fisheries officer. The Coastguard officer told the Fisheries officer that he caught Franklin fishing in the Bluefield Range and Franklin had the illegal catch in his ice box. Castillo, pleaded guilty to setting fishing net within half of a mile of any locality and setting fishing net restricting the passage of boats and fish. He was fined $200. He was given until February 20 to pay the first fine and until March 30 to pay the second fine. If he defaults on payment he will serve 2 months for each offense.
