A former member of the Belize Coast Guard, 25-year-old Devaun Maskall was targeted and fatally shot a stone’s throw from his front door. Currently, police have disclosed no known motive for this murder, and sources say Maskall had recently moved into the home on the Philip Goldson Highway. Deputy Head of the National Crimes Investigations Branch, Hilberto Romero, gave us more details of this latest murder.
Sr.Supt.Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head NCIB: “On Saturday the 31st of August around midnight police responded to a shooting incident at mile 4 1/2 on the Philip Goldson Highway. Upon their arrival, they found the lifeless body of Devaun Maskall, 25-year-old Belizean of that said address. Information was obtained where it was revealed that around that time the deceased arrived at his house along with his girlfriend when he was approached by a male person who pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at him. He received one gunshot injury and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the KHMH. Several persons have been detained and interviewed however they had to be released as the case requires more investigation. One vehicle has so far been impounded in reference to the investigation.”
Police would not say if Maskall had any previous encounters with the law.
