Guatemalan found in the Chiquibul

1 min read

The Chiquibul remains the one significant place Guatemalan poachers go to mine gold, steal parrots for trade and clear land for farming. On Saturday, August 11th, Forest Rangers from the Chiquibul National Park handed over twenty-seven year old Guatemalan National, Jaime Calderon to the San Ignacio police department.  Calderon was found armed in the National Park. ACP Joseph Myvett provided more information.

ACP Joseph Myvette: Our investigation revealed that Calderon was inside Belize’s territory at the Caracol area and at the time was armed with a .22 rifle which was loaded with five rounds of ammunition. The Ranger Patrol intercepted him and he could not produce a license for the weapon hence the reason for his detention.

Calderon was arrested and charged with unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as for his illegal entry into Belize.
