4 min read

A nineteen year old has been charged for the murder of 26 year old Phylmore King, a construction worker, who was found dead at his home located on Peter Lewis Street in Hattieville Village. On Saturday morning, King was fatally shot while on his verandah. Investigators say the evidence is pointing at Darnell Arnold. Hipolito Novelo has the story.

Who would want to kill 26 year old Hattieville Villager, Phylmore King?

Tasheena King, Sister: “I honestly don’t know. He was just a loving person if he is not with his friends he is home with us, me and his little sister so I don’t know how to answer that question for you.”

But police do. Investigators believe that the shooter is 19 year old Darnell Arnold.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB Belize City: “Police have detained one Darnell Arnold a 19 year old resident of Hattieville and on the 10t of June he was formally charged for the murder of Mr.King. The investigation did unearth enough evidence for him to be charged for murder.”

Tasheena King, Sister: “It had to be someone he knew if he was sitting there holding a conversation . He was just waiting for his opportunity to do what he wanted to do. Not realizing what he was going to do to us. So I don’t know, my brother was only 26- he wasn’t supposed to go away before me.”

According to Tasheena King, her brother was at their home on Peter Lewis Street when he was executed at around 7:45 on Saturday morning. The shooter and King were on the veranda when the firearm was pulled and King was shot once to the back of the head. He died at the scene. At home with him at the time was his younger sister.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB Belize City: “I don’t want to disclose the motive at this time I don’t have any details in regards to the investigation to share.”

Reporter: Do you know whether or not he had any enemies that he spoke of? Any beef that he had with anybody recently?

Tasheena King, Sister: “He didn’t talk about he did, if he had any beef but as far as I know he doesn’t have any beef he’s always home- so there is no time for beefing.”

Arnold was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser. No plea was taken because the offence is of an indictable nature. No bail was offered. He was remanded

Tasheena King, Sister: “I forgive him. He can’t bring back my little brother so there is nothing that I’m able to say to him.”

Arnold is schedule to reappear in court on July 24.
