A father of two is claiming that his seven-month-old child was severely injured whilst in the custody of the Human Services Department. Kevin Arnold told Love News that his 7-year-old son and two-year-old daughter were removed from the family home in Belize City because the Department found their living arrangements to be unfit. The father was then called to go to the hospital weeks later due to an emergency with the child. According to him the baby suffered a blow to the head. Arnold is now seeking for answers on what happened to the baby.
Kevin Arnold, Father of Children: “On the 9th of September Human Resources came to my house, seized my two kids at the age of 2 and 7 months. On that day we went behind the police to look forward that we could see if we could get our kids but they told us we cannot get our kids. So we went at their office on Regent Street and they took the kids to Ladyville shelter. While they took the kids to Ladyville shelter we asked for a request so that we could have seen the kids again. While we got the request we went to see the kid. While playing with the two year old kid the report came to us, it is an anonymous report that the 7 year old baby is in the hospital with a trauma to the head. That’s the report that the doctor explained to us on the Friday which was the 20th. We want to know as the concerned parent what happened at the shelter why the baby got hit in the head and it was a very severe blow to the head. I don’t know if it’s a cover up or something like that but we just want to know what happened to our baby, we are concerned parents and we really want to know what happened to the baby.”
The Human Service department issued a release yesterday where they explained the entire scenario. The release states “the children were not placed at Liberty Children’s Home in Ladyville but in foster care.” According to the department a CAT scan result showed that the baby sustained Non- traumatic Spontaneous Subdural Occipital Hematoma. This means that there was no trauma to the child’s head. They also claim that two appointment were made for the father to meet with the doctor about the child’s medical status but he never attended. The release also noted that the last visitation from the parents was on October 18.
