Illegal Logging Operation found in Toledo

On Thursday a joint police and Forestry Department operation in San Felipe Village in the Toledo District sought out and found an illegal logging operation.  The Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Joseph Myvett said from time to time they cooperate with the Forestry Department in joint operations.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “In the Toledo district where upon arrival to the area officers discovered six San Felipe residents involved in illegal logging. As a result, some three thousand feet of lumber was confiscated however those persons were not detained as I believe that forestry is conducting further investigation into this matter.”

Reporter: Is this something that law enforcement, I know usually you all don’t get involved in stuff like this but is this something that you all were made aware of by forestry?

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes they came for police assistance to go on the operation and from time to time we do accompany the Forestry Department on these operations.”

The police department will leave it to the Forest Department to identify the type of wood that was being illegally extracted.
