International Youth Day: “Safe Places for Youth”

August twelfth is being celebrated as International Youth day under the theme “Safe Places for Youth”. However, the Department of Youth Services is holding an early celebration on Friday. Love News spoke with Renata Samuels, the Communications Officer for the Department of Youth Services who said the department simply wants the youths to enjoy themselves.

Renata Samuels – Communications Officer, Department of Youth Services: We  are having a big field trip; we are taking people from Orange Walk and from Cayo and from our overall Belize district and we are bringing them all to Altun Ha having a huge field trip. I have games planned for them, lunch of course, entrainment by Marilyn Vansen and other guests so we are just having a day for them. We promote safe places with all our departments so when we are having our program because the people; it’s over 200 youth and then they are all going to be coming in from  out district so we are just promoting the fact that we are bringing in people from our safe places, bringing them to Altun Ha which is another safe place and just the idea of inclusiveness.

The youths were selected from participants in the programs organized by the Department of Youth Services.
