Twenty-six year old Jermaine Matura, accompanied by his attorney, Leeroy Banner appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford, where he was charged with attempted murder. Matura was also charged with dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Senior Magistrate Ford explained to Matura that she will not take a plea since the offences are indictable. Matura was not offered bail instead he was remanded to the Kolbe Foundation until December 6. The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. on October 5. The complainant, 19 year old Thomas Ferguson, reported to the police that he and a friend, Alex Thomas, were walking on Arlington Drive when they were approached by Matura who fired several shots in their direction. Ferguson was shot to his lower back and lower abdomen. Yesterday Matura, accompanied by his attorney, Leeroy Banner, went to the police station and handed himself in.
