📣 Belmopan. April 5, 2020. 8:15 a.m. – Ministry of Health confirms Fifth case of COVID-19 in Belize.                      📣 Today, April 5, 2020 at 03:19 a.m., the expanded testing protocol of the Ministry of Health identified a fifth case of COVID-19. The patient is a Belizean student who returned from Florida.                      📣 The patient arrived in Belize on Friday, April 3rd, and is in self-isolation at a quarantine facility. He is without symptoms and stable.                      📣 In reference to patient #4, the mapping exercise of the Ministry of Health has allowed for the identification of close contacts of that patient in both San Ignacio and Belize City where swabs were taken on April 3rd and 4th.                      📣 A total of 102 samples were processed on April 4th and into the early hours of today. The samples processed included close contacts from both Belize City and San Ignacio and that of health care workers in the Cayo District who had been in contact with patient #4.                      📣 The remaining 101 samples were all negative for COVID-19, and therefore, the Ministry is still unable to determine who the infected contact was for patient #4.

Who killed Akeem Tiron Vargas?

Another man was gunned down in Belize City. 25-year-old Akeem Tiron Vargas is the latest victim as he was gunned down last night on Wagner’s Lane in Belize City.  Lorna Sanchez, Vargas’ mother-in-law said that she met Vargas in the alley when she came from work and not too long after while talking to her daughter she heard the shots.

Lorna Sanchez – Mother-in-law: So we walk and I see him gone in but I went around the house and when I came out I didn’t know he went back out there and it was him and my daughter to go out, they were supposed to go to the park so he went out to get a next bike. My daughter come through and I saw her and I said oh you want your five dollars now that I have for you. I said let me give you, you will give me it but she advance to me and when she advance to me, I was to give her the money and then we heard bang amount I don’t even know how much but an amount of shots and I remember my son went through the alley and I believe that he didn’t reach the end of the alley so I run I didn’t know how I did that because my foot was in pain. I was the first one out there.

According to police report, Vargas was walking on Wagner’s Lane about seven o’clock last night, when he was approached by a male person who fired several shots at him.  As a result, Vargas was wounded to the right side of his neck and under the right ear, which led to his demise.  Vargas was transported to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
