PILOT WHALES SIGHTED IN THE AREA OF THE SAPODILLA CAYES Jul 03, 2012

A school of pilot whales was sighted in the area of Sapodilla Caye range in Southern Belize.  Paul Mahung reports.

PAUL MAHUNG, Reporter

“According to Roland and Polly Alford of Reece CI Operation, the school of pilot whales was cited on Wednesday of this week about a mile east of Tom Owens Caye in the Sapodilla range of cayes.  As reported by Rowland Alford there were some seventy five pilot whales swimming around in groups of about twelve as they remain in formations of multiple pods.  Alford remarked that the pilot whales were friendly and curious as they allowed the Alfords to swim along with the pilot whales and at time they were up to five of them right next to them both. The Alfords describe the opportunity with the pilot whales as an awesome, exceptional and breathe taking experience which lasted for about an hour and a half before the fascinating school of pilot whales, including adults and juniors, eventually disappeared into their natural marine habitat in the sea waters surrounding the Sapodilla Caye and beyond.  Reporting for Love News, Paul Mahung, Punta Gorda.”
